2. Personal information we collect
Depending on how you interact with AssetChekd, we may collect:
Account and contact information, including your name, email address, telephone number, billing information and information associated with your customer account.
Order and transaction information, including reports purchased, vehicle registrations searched, dates, amounts paid, order status and transaction identifiers.
Payment information. Payments are handled through our ecommerce and payment providers. We do not need to store your complete payment-card details where these are processed directly by the payment provider.
Vehicle-search information, including registration numbers and other vehicle identifiers submitted when requesting a report.
Communications, including information you provide when contacting us for support or making an enquiry.
Technical and usage information, which may include your IP address, browser, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, timestamps, cookie identifiers and similar technical information.
Shopify confirms that Shopify-powered stores may involve processing customer contact, transaction, device, browser, network, IP and browsing information to provide its services to merchants.
3. How we use your information
We may process personal information to:
- create and administer customer accounts;
- process orders and payments;
- perform requested vehicle searches;
- generate and deliver vehicle-history reports;
- retain purchased reports within customer accounts;
- provide customer support;
- investigate failed searches, payment issues and disputes;
- protect AssetChekd and our customers against fraud, abuse and unauthorised access;
- operate, maintain and improve our website and services;
- comply with legal, accounting and regulatory requirements; and
- send marketing communications where permitted by law.
We do not sell your individual vehicle-search history to motor traders, insurers or similar organisations so that they can target you because you searched for a particular vehicle.
4. Our lawful bases
Depending on the processing involved, we rely upon one or more lawful bases.
Contract: where processing is necessary to take payment, perform your requested vehicle check, generate your report, provide access to it and administer your customer account.
Legitimate interests: where reasonably necessary to operate and improve AssetChekd, maintain security, prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems and understand how the service is being used, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
Legal obligation: where information must be processed or retained to meet applicable legal, taxation, accounting or regulatory requirements.
Consent: where we specifically request your permission, including certain marketing activities and non-essential cookies or similar technologies where consent is required.
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
5. Vehicle searches and vehicle-history information
When you request a vehicle-history report, AssetChekd sends the registration number and any other necessary vehicle identifier to the systems and data providers required to perform the requested checks.
Those providers may return available information concerning the vehicle, including vehicle specification, MOT and mileage records and, where included in the purchased service, finance, theft, insurance damage/write-off, salvage, identity and other vehicle-history information.
We process this information to provide the service you requested.
AssetChekd does not provide customers with the names, home addresses or other personal details of previous vehicle keepers merely because they purchase a vehicle-history report.
6. Shopify
AssetChekd uses Shopify for ecommerce functionality, including customer accounts and order processing.
Shopify states that, when processing information on behalf of a Shopify merchant, the merchant controls why customer information is used and Shopify generally acts as processor. Certain Shopify consumer services, such as Shop and Shop Pay, can involve Shopify processing information under its own terms and privacy arrangements.
You can read Shopify's Privacy Policy for more information.
7. Who we may share information with
We may provide personal information where necessary to:
Shopify and ecommerce/payment providers, for customer accounts, checkout, payments, fraud prevention and order administration.
Vehicle-data providers, where necessary to perform the vehicle-history check requested by you.
Hosting and technology providers, where necessary to operate, secure and maintain AssetChekd.
Professional advisers, including accountants, insurers and legal advisers where reasonably necessary.
Government authorities, regulators, law enforcement agencies and courts, where disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
We do not disclose personal information merely because another organisation would find it commercially useful.
8. International transfers
Some organisations providing services to AssetChekd may process information outside the United Kingdom.
Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for international transfers of personal information.
Shopify states that information concerning UK individuals may be processed through its Irish affiliate and transferred to Shopify locations and service providers elsewhere, including Canada and the United States, subject to applicable safeguards.
9. How long we keep information
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and to meet applicable legal, accounting, security and dispute-resolution requirements.
Different types of information may therefore be retained for different periods.
Customer-account and purchased-report information may be retained while the account remains active and afterwards where reasonably necessary.
Transaction records may be retained as required for accounting and taxation purposes.
Customer-support correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with an enquiry or subsequent dispute.
Information that is no longer required may be deleted or anonymised.
10. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or loss.
AssetChekd also relies on security measures provided by Shopify and our other technology providers.
No internet-based system can guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for protecting your account credentials and should contact us if you believe your account has been accessed without authorisation.
11. Marketing
Where AssetChekd sends electronic marketing, we will do so in accordance with applicable law.
Where consent is required, we will obtain it before sending the relevant marketing.
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the unsubscribe option contained in the communication or by contacting info@assetchekd.co.uk.
Messages necessary to administer your account, orders, purchased reports or important service changes are service communications rather than marketing.
12. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to:
- access personal information held about you;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- request deletion in certain circumstances;
- request restriction of processing in certain circumstances;

You also have the right to complain to the UK data-protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
